The reigning European champions have a string of names familiar to English fans - including of course Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira.

The form of Champions League finalists Monaco has also been rewarded with call-ups for Ludovic Giuly and Jérôme Rothen.

But Auxerre defender Phillipe Mexes, reportedly a target for both Manchester United and Arsenal over the last year, misses out along with Liverpool-bound striker Djibril Cisse, who has to serve a four-match suspension after kicking out at an opponent when playing for France's Under 21 side against Portugal.

Manchester City's Nicolas Anelka is also excluded, as coach Jacques Santini keeps faith with Steve Marlet and Sylvain Wiltord, as reserves for Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet.

French champions Lyon will be represented solely by goalkeeper Grégory Coupet. Veteran Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly will captain the side.

England play France in their opening Euro 2004 fixture on 13 June.
