Following their defeat at the hands of Brazil in the semi-final, England had the opportunity to regain some pride in front of another large crowd in the Third and Fourth Place play-off match against Ukraine.
With pitch side conditions once again over 30 degrees at 9.30am local time, the ability to use the ball well for long periods of play was going to prove essential.
Lee Dobson almost fired England ahead after just three minutes with a dipping overhead kick, but his effort flew just over the crossbar.
Then on 11 minutes, England's player of the tournament, Dave Tweed had two quick fire shots beaten away by the Ukrainian keeper to safety.
It was from another Tweed effort that England scored what was to prove to be the winning goal just one minute later. His hard shot was not held by the keeper and Dobson was on hand to pick up the pieces and slot the ball home inside the goal area.
The jubilation on the pitch was evident after Saturday's low points. The goal was Dobson's fourth of the tournament and as a result he became the highest English scorer in the Championship.
England had to be on their guard however when a quick break and high cross saw Bogatrov guide a lopping header near the far post, but Carl Richardson was at his best arching backwards to save the goal bound effort by dispatching the ball over the bar.
The second period was inevitably slower with the heat becoming intense. Despite several efforts on goal the match drifted away from Ukraine and England were assured of a third place trophy and medals for the squad.
