Biography

Current club: Chelsea

Frank is a midfielder who scores goals. He was born in Romford, the son of a former West Ham United and England full-back (Frank Senior), and started at West Ham where his father was Assistant Coach.

He made nine Division Two appearances on loan at Swansea City, scoring once, before making his Hammers first-team debut against Coventry City in January 1996 when he was 17. He was close to 150 Premier League appearances when Chelsea signed him in 2001.

Frank blossomed into a world-class midfielder with the Blues, winning three League titles, three FA Cups and playing in a Champions League Final. In 2005 he was voted the second best player in both Europe and the World.

For England he scored nine goals in 19 games at Under-21 level and made his senior debut under Kevin Keegan in a friendly against Belgium at the Stadium of Light on 10 October 1999.

He was an ever-present in the Euro 2004 Finals, netting three times, and also in the 2006 World Cup. He had the honour of scoring England’s 500th goal at Wembley against Slovakia in March 2009 and reached 75 caps (20 goals) seven months later in Ukraine.

Frank played for England in the 2010 World Cup Finals, famously 'scoring' a goal against Germany that clearly crossed the line but was not awarded. That season he had helped Chelsea to an FA Cup and Premier League 'double' and he has continued to star for the Blues, guiding them to FA Cup and Champions League Finals in 2012.

For England, he scored a winning goal in a friendly against World and European Champions Spain in November 2011, taking his total for his country to 23 in 90 caps.
