Biography

Current club: Tottenham Hotspur

Peter, England’s tallest ever player at 6’7”, began with Tottenham Hotspur but hadn’t appeared for them in the Premier League by the time of his transfer to QPR at the age of 19.

The lanky striker scored 10 goals in 42 Division One appearances in a relegation season for Rangers before enjoying a more successful season in the same division with Portsmouth, netting 18 goals in 37 games.

Further moves followed to Premier League outfits Aston Villa, Southampton and Liverpool. He was back with Pompey in 2008 and then joined his first club Spurs a year later.

Peter was capped six times for England’s Under-21s and made his senior debut in a friendly against Colombia in New Jersey on 31 May 2005. He established himself in Eriksson’s side in the following season, scoring six goals in one five-game spell and being chosen to start England’s first two fixtures in the 2006 World Cup.

The player with the popular ‘robotic’ goal celebration continued to find the net regularly for his country, his 18th strike against Belarus in October 2009 coming in only his 17th start. A volley at full stretch from Beckham’s pinpoint cross against Croatia at Wembley would live long in the memory.
