Holland coach Dick Advocaat.
Dick Advocaat
Thursday, 29 April 2004.
Now in his second spell as coach of the Netherlands, Advocaat replaced Louis Van Gaal after the Dutch missed out on the 2002 World Cup.
On taking over the helm Advocaat made it clear to his players that missing out on Euro 2004 was simply not an option, and they lived up to his calls.
Holland did not take the easy route to Portugal however and only qualified for the championships via a play-off with Scotland.
The Dutch seemed to face an uphill struggle as they went into the second-leg a goal behind, but Advocaat inspired them to a six goal thrashing to qualify.
Advocaat can now plan for the summer but with a squad of such huge talent to select from, keeping his array of stars happy will perhaps be the manager's biggest challenge as he bids to help Holland return to their former glory days.
