Liverpool became the first team this season to inflict defeat on Leicester City and take one step more towards another appearance in The FA Youth Cup Final.

A first half hat-trick from Finnish striker Laurie Dalla Valle and further strikes from Tom Ince and Michael Mgoo saw the Reds run out comfortable winners at the Walkers Stadium and U18s boss Rodolfo Borell was delighted with the outcome.

"We came here with a lot of respect for the other team, because until now they were the only unbeaten U18 team in the country,” Borrell told TheFA.com.

"They are having an incredible season because it is not easy to get to this stage of the season with 14 wins and two draws.”

It didn’t take long for Liverpool to get going and Dalla Valle scored twice in the first ten minutes to set them on their way.

Ince added a goal on the counter attack shortly after the half-hour mark before Dalla Valle completed his treble in the 34th minute to see a 4-0 half time lead in place.

Abdillahie Yussuf pulled a goal back for the hosts with a close range header in the 53rd minute, but tall striker Michael Mgoo restored Liverpool’s four goal advantage with a neat finish twenty minutes later.

Spanish coach Borrell only arrived at Anfield prior to this season after previously being a part of Barcelona’s renowned youth academy and he was quick to admit just how impressed he has been with The FA Youth Cup since their involvement began in the Third Round.

"I am surprised how important The Youth Cup is here,” he said.

“I didn’t expect this when we played our first match at Anfield.

"I have been at FC Barcelona for 14 years, and there we also have a Spanish Cup but it is not so important as it is here.

"The reality is that for the club it's important, for me it's important and for the players.”
