Eastleigh smashed seven without reply past Bournemouth Poppies in The FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round on Wednesday night.

Eastleigh manager Danny Smith was thrilled to see his side land so many goals with Josh Green and Tim Brasseur getting on the scoresheet. Sam House weighed in with two goals and 15-year-old Ryan Lewis completed the rout.

Smith said: "Our quality really shone through, the first goal took a long time coming and when it did I think it released a lot of pressure off the boys and they were able to kick on.

"Bournemouth had a chance to pull it back to 2-1 and then the game could have panned out differently, Bournemouth have nothing to be embarrassed about though, because they played some really good football."

Smith will be doing to his best to keep his players' feet on the ground, following on from their comprehensive victory, especially with a trip to AFC Totten in the next round that he believes will be a far bigger challenge.

"The standard that they have set has to be maintained in every game now," he added. "If they are looking to force their way into the first team then that is the level they will have to play at.

"AFC Totten will be a tougher test because their first team are in a stronger position than Bournemouth Poppies, their U16s beat ours at the weekend so we will have to play very well to get anything from the game."

Bournemouth manager David Martin would not have enjoyed the game, but he can take pride in the fact that his team stuck to their guns throughout.

"We got well and truly rolled over but they were an excellent side," he admitted. "I am most pleased about how the boys stuck to the task given to them before the game, even when it became an exercise in damage limitation."

An injury to his goalkeeper as well as a number of other key absences did not help Martin's cause but he was still proud of his makeshift team.

"There is a lot they can learn from that game, Eastleigh were kind enough to comment on how well we passed the ball and tried to play football and I relayed that to my players. Hopefully, when their initial misery lifts, they can take comfort in that."
