Osayamen Osawe scored a dramatic extra-time winner as Blackburn Rovers clinched an FA Youth Cup Semi-Final spot with a 2-1 home win over Everton.
Osawe curled a beauty past Everton goalkeeper Adam Davies from the edge of the area in the 102nd minute after the sides drew 1-1 in a frantic original 90 minutes.
Shane Duffy put the visitors ahead with a first-half header but Rovers equalised ten minutes from time through Grant Hanley.
The result means Blackburn will now meet Chelsea in the Semi-Final.
Their progress past a very strong Everton team had looked unlikely when they conceded for the first time in the competition on 42 minutes as Duffy headed home Jose Baxter’s curling free-kick.
Jason Banton nearly levelled on 57 minutes but his fierce strike was deflected just inches over the crossbar but a comeback looked increasingly likely.
Neil Dewsnip’s side had themselves gone over 1,000 minutes without conceding a goal before Hanley, the Rovers captain, scrambled the ball over the line in the 80th minute.
An exciting attacking game swept from one end of the pitch to the other, but the sides simply could not be separated in normal time.
In the pulsating extra half-an-hour, Osawe struck the crucial blow with a supremely confident effort swept in after some fine build-up play 12 minutes into the first period of added time.
Everton battled hard to try and force themselves back into the game, but they could not break down the hosts’ defence and bravely bowed out of the competition. Blackburn, on the other hand, were delirious at the final whistle and their FA Youth Cup dream remains well and truly alive.
