Bishop Stortford's FA Youth Cup dreams came to an end on Tuesday evening as they lost a tight game at League One side MK Dons.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, all three goals came in a frantic five minute spell midway through the second half, and although the hosts had more goalscoring opportunities, the visitors will feel that they deserved to take the game into extra time.

Playing at the impressive stadium:mk, Stortford had the first chance of the game when Tom Querry’s free-kick into box just eluded Christian Burgess.

They also went close with Dan Godfrey heading a George Wappett cross wide on 26 minutes and Francis Adu-Boadu firing wide in the 37th minute after a good move again involving Wappett.

At the other end, Igor Coronado twice went wide with long range efforts, but the hosts’ best chance of the first half came six minutes before the break when keeper Bert Greenwood saved well with his legs after Hayden Carter had broke down the left.

Blues made two changes shortly after the break, Abu Suma replacing Francis Adi-Boadu and Mark Robinson coming on for Nick Azzapardi

The impressive Greenwood again kept his side on level terms with a save from Troy Farden early in the second half, and then he tipped over Farden’s 20 yard dipping shot.

However, from the resulting corner, substitute Awadh Ahmed was given time and space to fire home from 15 yards to give his side a 63rd minute lead.

That advantage lasted barely 60 seconds though, as skipper Chris Sargent bundled home a corner at the far post.

Before the crowd had time to draw their break, Dons scored what proved to be the winner with a well-worked move. Charlie Collins won the ball on the left and linked up well with Justin Dowling who lobbed the ball over the Stortford defence for Collins to head the ball down and send a perfect lob over Greenwood.

The Blues keeper kept out a late free-kick from Adam Chickson, but Stortford then had a penalty claim turned down when Wappett fell under a challenge from Jordan Browne in added time only to see Stortford's frantic appeals turned down.
