Preston North End and Aldershot Town last night advanced to the Third Round Proper of The FA Youth Cup following dramatic wins over Walsall and AFC Totton respectively.

North End held their nerve to dispatch Walsall 5-4 on penalties following the two sides' 1-1 draw.

Walsall skipper Jamie Tank inadvertently handed Preston the lead with an eighth-minute own goal, before Mitchell Botfield equalised for the visitors with a stunning 25-yard drive.

Following a tense second half and goalless extra-time period, Preston goalkeeper Jordan Watson earned himself the plaudits after denying Aaron Williams and Callum Williams from the spot to send the home side in to the next round.

Aldershot came from behind to comfortably earn themselves a place in the Third Round of The FA Youth Cup.

Luke Roberts' 40th minute header put the away side in front, before George Bowerman levelled in the 66th minute after slotting home from close range.

Matt Steer handed Aldershot the lead in the 71st minute, and he secured the victory one minute from time with a sumptuous right-foot effort.
