Championship side Crystal Palace kicked off a massive few days of Cup action for the club, as their youngsters booked a Quarter Final trip to Newcastle United by scoring an impressive 4-1 win at Premier League Hull City on Thursday night.

Palace will now be hoping their first team can be inspired by the victory as they prepare to take on another Premier League club in Aston Villa, when they meet in The FA Cup Fifth Round at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.

Palace’s Academy side made light work of Hull in a keenly contested Fifth Round match. The match had just started when Palace took the lead, through a Joe Goldsmith header which put the Eagles into the lead after a great run and cross from Wilfred Zaha.

But Hull recovered and nearly equalised when Raymond Ford hit a post after 25 minutes. Ford then had another good effort saved before Palace doubled their lead just before half-time when right-back Kieran Kenlock scored from 40 yards out.

Hull were stronger after the break and pulled a goal back through Mark Cullen’s 29th goal of the season in the 56th minute, but the comeback was short-lived as Palace restored their two-goal lead a couple of minutes later as Kenlock’s cross was headed in by Goldsmith.

The hosts continued to battle but they were ultimately defeated when Jack Randall scored Palace’s fourth goal in the last minute of the match.
