Jason Lowe netted a brace as Blackburn recorded a memorable 3-0 victory over Manchester United to book their place in The FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON Sixth Round.

Blackburn made home advantage count and they can now look forward to a last eight tie against Preston or Everton.

United dominated the opening exchanges but it was Blackburn who opened the scoring on 37 minutes when a corner fell to Lowe who was unmarked inside the area and he volleyed home from six yards.

Grant Hanley added a second for Blackburn on 69 minutes. United keeper Conor Devlin made a fine reflex save to deny Hanley’s initial header. The rebound fell to the Blackburn skipper who made no mistake nodding the ball home from close-range.

Blackburn completed the victory on 87 minutes when Lowe added his second of the game. Nicky Ajose was adjudged to have given away a foul inside the box. Tom Hitchcock saw his penalty kick well saved by Devlin, but Lowe was on hand to knock the loose ball home.
