The FA Women's Premier League Cup

Bristol make it through

Bristol Academy 3-0 Keynsham Town
The FA Tesco Women's Premier League Cup
First Round
Sunday 14 September 2008
Oaklands Park, Bristol

Bristol Academy progressed to the Second Round of The FA Tesco Women's Premier League Cup, but Keynsham Town take great credit for their battling display.

Keynsham frustrated their hosts for the opening period of the game but could have given away a penalty inside the first ten minutes.

Bristol continued to attack and got their reward on the half hour mark when Michelle Green thumped home from 12 yards out, after getting on the end of a knock down from Justine Lorton.

Substitute Gwen Harries gave the scoreline a more convincing edge with two late goals, but Keynsham can take a lot of credit for their determined display against a Premier League side.

Bristol goalscorer Gwen Harries admitted that Keynsham made things difficult for them despite facing a side from the Premier League.

Harries explained: "In the teamtalk before the game we were told to play the ball out wide at a high tempo, but we didn't do that.

"Credit to Keynsham though, they made it hard for us."

Harries was pleased to score twice but admitted that her second strike was a better goal.

She said: "To be honest it was a bit of a scuffed shot, thankfully Justine jumped over it, but everyone always says put it in the corner.

"My second was definitely a better goal, the game was a lot more stretched so I had more room, I just ran through and thankfully caught it well."
