Deal Town look forward to the weekend as the Kent Premier League side's favourite competition comes to town. Deal won The FA Vase in 2000 and on Saturday they play host to Sussex County League One leaders Crawley Down in the competition's First Round Qualifying .

Deal manager Derek Hares said ahead of the tie: "There is always a buzz around the club at this time of year because of The Vase.

"You always have a feeling that you won't go too far in The FA Cup because of the quality of the teams that come in at the later stages but with The Vase, it's different.

"If you play well enough and get a good draw, then it is something you can progress in. It creates a lot of interest here because we are past winners."

Hares is waiting on the fitness of a number of players but has been buoyed by the return of one of his first choice midfielders.

"I've got Danny Smith back from injury, he hasn't played at all this season due to a hamstring problem. He could come in on the left of midfield and a couple of others are also returning to the squad." added Hares.

Crawley Down manager Darren Guirey will be taking an injury hit squad to Deal but he is confident that it will not prove to be a wasted journey.

"It is a long way to go, it's going to take at least two and a half hours, so we want to go and get a good result," he said.

"We are missing a few players, we have three players out injured, but I have confidence in the players available."

Crawley are unbeaten in the league after seven games and Guirey hopes to take that good form into The Vase, a competition he holds in high regard.

"The Vase and The FA Cup are massively important to clubs like ours when you take the financial aspect into account. We want to do as well as we can in The Vase because it is a nationwide competition and it will be a good test."
