Two second-half goals from Wes Tate earned Whitehawk an FA Vase Semi-Final spot with an impressive 3-1 victory over Gresley in the Sixth Round Proper at the Moat Ground .

After taking an early lead through Scott Kirkwood, Whitehawk were then pegged back by a Matt Hill goal on the stroke of half time.

However, Tate’s brace after the re-start saw his side take their place in the last four of the competition.

Whitehawk, who are joint-managed by former West Ham United star George Parris and Darren Freeman, came in to the last eight of the competition in fine form.

Parris and Freeman's side are top of the Sussex County Football League First Division and have lost just three times in the league all season.

Hosts Gresley have also been enjoying a successful season in the East Midlands Counties League, but their preparation for the tie suffered a hiccup when they lost 2-0 to Holbrook Miners Welfare last time out.

They were soon on the backfoot again, when Kirkwood gave the visitors a 17th minute lead and chances were missed at either end before Hill’s goal for Gresley made the scores 1-1 at half time.

Both sides came out in search of a winning goal after the break, but it was Whitehawk who had the greater composure in front of goal.

Tate grabbed his first goal of the afternoon midway through the second-half, on 66 minutes, and secured his side’s place in the Semi-Final draw just nine minutes later.
