Whitehawk joint-manager George Parris welcomes the distraction of Saturday's FA Vase tie against Gresley.

Parris, who played in over 200 games for West Ham United, is happy to take a break from their successful league campaign and concentrate on their Vase game at the weekend.

"The Vase is another incentive for us, we have played well in the league and if we get through to the next round it will be a bonus," he said.

"It will be a tough game. There are some good sides left in the competition, so there are no easy games.

"We don't know too much about them, but if they have come this far they will be a hard team to beat.

"We are looking forward to the game. We will certainly be prepared and will be searching for a win rather than looking at a replay," he added.

Whitehawk are currently leading the first division of the Sussex County Football League and they have four games in hand over second-placed Chichester City. Their form could be attributed to their unusual joint-management set-up. Along with Parris, Darren Freeman runs the team affairs.

"Our league form has been good. We are certainly looking to transfer that into our cup game," said Parris.

"He (Freeman) has definitely been a positive influence. He's come in and done an excellent job."

The former Brighton defender also believes that his side have no star players, attributing their league and cup fortunes to a collective team performance.

"There's been no outstanding player for us this season. Our success has been a team effort and it has got us to where we are now."
