Cullompton Rangers progressed to the Second Round Qualifying of The FA Carlsberg Vase with a 2-0 win over Crediton United on Tuesday.

The tie followed their 3-3 draw last week and Cullompton manager Pete Buckingham felt the changes he made to the starting line up that earned the previous draw were crucial.

Buckingham said: "We defended properly and we are now looking forward to the next round. I made five changes from the team that played in the first game and they made a significant difference.

"There was a marked improvement although Crediton did not make it easy for us and they kept going right to the end," he added.

The home side took control in the first half through Alex Greening, following some exquisite build up play from Matt Harvey, and they looked like extending their advantage before the half-time interval.

Buckingham admitted to fearing the 15-minute break might hinder his side's progress but he was happily proved wrong.

"We ended the first half really well and sometimes that break can disrupt the game but we got off to the perfect start in the second half with another goal," he said.

That final goal came from Brett Worbey and secured Collumpton a visit to Cornwall to take on St Blazey in the next round.

"It was a comfortable win in the end. We managed to cut out the mistakes that we made in the last game and that was the difference," Buckingham added.

Crediton manager Steve Guppy said after the game: "It was not the result we wanted, obviously, but we were up against it from the off because of injuries and Cullompton were a very strong side.

"We had our chances and we didnt take them, which is regrettable, but they probably did deserve to win what I felt was a pretty even game," he added.

Elsewhere in Tuesday night's replays Long Melford won at Fakenham Town 3-1, Ashton Town won 2-1 at home Maltby Main, Gorleston came away from Ely City with a 1-0 victory, Rothwell Corinthians were hit for five on their own patch by Thetford Town and Saltash United were 3-1 winners over Falmouth Town.
