Poole Town are looking to complete a football fairytale this season by leaving their usual surroundings of Oakdale South Road Middle School, to gracing the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium come May. Tom Killick's Poole travel to Eastbourne United this Saturday in the Third Round Proper of The FA Vase, and, having won 21 of 26 games this season leaving them top of the Wessex Premier Division with a game in hand, they will be hoping for a positive result.
Killick explained: "I think it will be an evenly contested match but hopefully we can prevail."
This year's run of good form comes off the back of last season's outstanding displays as they won the Wessex Premier and Dorset Senior Cup double, and left them the second best record out of 1,600 clubs in England based on points per game.
"Last year was a huge achievement," Killick added. "This year it hasn't been quite as plain sailing but we are still top of the league and playing well."
Killick knows what it takes to win The Vase having picked up a winners' medal as a player in 1992 when Wimborne Town beat Guiseley 5-3 in The Final.
"It was it was an unforgettable day at the old Wembley and it was such a big deal to get there. One of Poole's players Taffy Richardson is 43-years-old and he played alongside me in The Final. He's as fit as a fiddle, but I haven't been able to kick a ball in years.
"If we get to The Final it would match any achievements the club has ever had."
Their opponents Eastbourne United are sixth in Division One of the Sussex County Football League and have lost only twice this season.
