Whilst Whitley Bay captain Dave Coulson won’t be able to take part in The FA Vase Final at Wembley this weekend, he’s hoping to cheer on his team-mates from the sidelines to a second successive win in the competition.

The defender suffered a cruciate knee injury in the Semi-Final victory over Barwell which has sidelined him for eight months and therefore rules him out of Sunday’s showpiece.

However, he does believe that the team spirit and togetherness within Ian Chandler’s squad will prove enough for them to see off Wroxham and lift The Vase again.

“We’re very confident going into The Final,” revealed Coulson.

“Most of the players at the club were with us last year, so the team spirit at the club is absolutely second to none.

“This is the biggest thing we can win at our level, so to do it last year was tremendous and to come back again this year and try to do it again is fantastic. We can’t wait.”

As for the memories of last season’s Wembley triumph, Coulson admits they remain a bit cloudy but is now hoping to be able to re-live the experience of walking up those steps again.

“It was all a blur really, but was the best feeling in the world,” he explained.

“To lift The Vase in front of all of our support was fantastic. Unfortunately I’ll be missing out this year, but hopefully the lads can do it again and I’ll get up there with them again.”
