York City manager Martin Foyle is keen to put last season's Wembley heartache behind him and go one better by winning The FA Trophy this season.

Following their narrow victory over Conference South leaders Newport County on Tuesday night, the Minstermen host Northamptonshire side Corby Town in their Third Round clash.

"It was fantastic getting to The Final last year, and it certainly wasn't a distraction to our league form, so it shouldn't be this year either," he said.

The former Port Vale player and manager believes that the club's fine league form will push them even further in cup competitions, as York have not lost a league game since October.

"The mood in the camp is fantastic at the moment, and the players always look forward to the cup games," he added.

Foyle does concede, however, that the busy schedule due to matches being postponed over the winter period, is stretching his squad.

"We're having to rotate players", he continued. "But whoever comes into the squad has been doing great. I have a real selection headache at the moment."

Despite being without star striker and top goal scorer Richard Brodie due to a suspension, Foyle will be boosted by the return of fans favourite Djoumin Sangare, who is yet to start a league game since October following an injury to the groin.

This will be the third consecutive time that York have come up against lower league opposition in The FA Trophy this season, and with the past two games going to replays, Foyle is weary of the threat that Corby pose.

"We've actually found it harder against teams from the league below," he revealed. "This will be a cup final for Corby. It will be a tough game."

Although wanting a second successive trip to Wembley, Foyle admits that a return to Football League football is the priority this season.

"It's great to still be involved, it really keeps the season alive, but we still have a chance of winning the league, so that's our main priority."
