Click here for results Jerome Murdock’s first goal for Tamworth secured a 1-0 victory over Guiseley in The FA Carlsberg Trophy Third Round on Tuesday night.
Both sides struggled to cope with a rock-hard pitch, but striker Murdock popped up in the 77th minute to finish a move of real quality and seal a trip to either Cambridge United or Salisbury City in the last eight.
Of the three games played on Tuesday night that were re-arranged from Saturday, only the clash at Nethermoor Park brought a result.
A highly competitive game could have gone either way, but the Conference class of Tamworth eventually prevailed over their Conference North opponents.
A flowing move from the halfway line ended with Murdock sweeping the ball home to keep alive the visitors chances of reaching only their second ever FA Trophy Final.
Tamworth manager Gary Mills will have to wait to find out his side’s opponents in the next round after Cambridge and Salisbury failed to break the deadlock at the Abbey Stadium on a frustrating night for the home side.
Gateshead drew 1-1 with Barrow in the other Trophy match on the night and both sides will have to wait to see who faces a plum Quarter-Final clash at home against York City, Finalists last year where they lost to Stevenage.
