North Ferriby United produced a thrilling second-half comeback to draw 2-2 with Gainsborough Trinity in an end-to-end FA Carlsberg Trophy Third Round Qualifying tie at Grange Lane.

Late goals from Peter Davidson and Dave Cooke earned the Villagers a deserved replay against their Conference North opponents, despite having trailed 2-0 at half-time.

North Ferriby, who are based just outside Kingston-upon-Hull, were outclassed in the opening stages and fell behind to two Luke Beckett strikes.

Despite currently enjoying an impressive Unibond Premier Division campaign, the hosts were unable to cope with the former Oldham and Huddersfield striker and the tie looked all but over at the break.

However, North Ferriby came out with renewed vigor after the restart and took the game to Lincolnshire based Gainsborough.

And a period of concerted pressure was finally rewarded when midfielder Davidson found the back of the net with ten minutes to play and Cooke equalised on the stroke of full time.

Having seen his side snatch a draw, North Ferriby manager Neil Allison is now confident that they can go on and win the tie.

“I thought we were dead and buried at 2-0 down but all credit to our boys - we could have even won it at the end,” he said.

“We can play better and we definitely fancy our chances in the replay.”
