Thirty four goals were scored in just ten FA Trophy replays on Tuesday, but the tie of the night was possibly the five-goal thriller at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium, known as the Meres. That was where visitors Glapwell scored four minutes into time added on to win 3-2 against ten-man Grantham Town. There were probably not many neutrals in the 149 crowd, but they witnessed a Trophy classic with both sides enjoying numerous chances from the very start.
Grantham eventually took the lead after 25 minutes through Gio Carchedi, after the woodwork had taken a battering at both ends. The hosts were in front for only seven minutes before Glapwell sprang the Grantham offside trap and Neil Grayson scored an equaliser. And Glapwell took the lead for the first time only six minutes later when Callum Green scored with a cracker from the edge of the penalty area.
There were further good chances for both sides as Gary Hateley performed heroics in the Grantham goal, but it looked like game over for his side when Danny Steadman was sent off for a foul with 13 minutes to go. There was a further twist when a Matt Varley handball gave substitute Lee Potts an opportunity to score his first goal for Grantham from the penalty spot and draw them level in the 84th minute.
Grantham, suddenly, looked more likely winners as they missed a series of chances with a couple cleared off the line before Justin Burdett's cracking 18-yard strike sent Glapwell through to a tie at Stocksbridge Park Steels in the next round, on October 17.
Elsewhere, Carlton Town went through 3-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Wakefield and Walton & Hersham were also 3-1 winners from the penalty mark following their 3-3 draw with Whitstable Town.
Clitheroe were 4-1 winners at Belper Town and now go to Bradford (Park Avenue) in the First Round Qualifying. Leatherhead face an away tie against Ramsgate after their 2-1 win at Thamesmead Town.
Whyteleafe scored a 2-1 home win over Walton Casuals and Arlesey Town triumphed 3-2 over Potters Bar Town. There were away victories for Corinthian Casuals, Sittingbourne and Slough Town.
