The FA Carlsberg Trophy

Erase the memories

Warrington Town v Nantwich Town
The FA Carlsberg Trophy
Third Round Qualifying
Saturday 22 November 2008
Winning clubs will receive £4,000 from The FA

Nantwich Town are determined to erase their FA Cup heartache when they take on Warrington Town in The FA Trophy this weekend.

Nantwich led three times against Fleetwood Town in their FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying tie last month but were sunk by a last-minute goal to lose 4-3.

The Cheshire side were rocked by their failure to get into the First Round Proper, but manager Steve Davis says his players will use that pain to full effect when they visit Cantilever Park in The FA Trophy Third Round Qualifying match on Saturday.

"We felt we had done enough against Fleetwood Town and to lose rocked us a bit to be honest," said Davis.

"We looked the better side for most of it and the lads really hurt when they lost.

"They are using the Fleetwood game as all the motivation they need to win at Warrington, because they want to make up for The FA Cup pain.

"It won't be an easy game against Warrington, it never is, and it is what I would call a 'proper' game.

"It it physical and a tough place to visit on a difficult surface, so we will have to be at our best. But we are confident.

"The lads love the cup competitions and they are great for the club because of the money that help generate, so they are a big priority to us."

David says he will not be using The Trophy to blood any younger players because Nantwich already has a successful youth policy - their junior team is through to the Third Round of The FA Youth Cup.

"We will go with our first team squad to Warrington, not just because we want to do well in the competition but because our youngsters are already doing well enough," Davis explained.

"Many of them play midweek and for their counties, so we don't want to overwork them, plus they are chasing their own success at the moment.

"We have a great set-up here, the club continues to move forward and hopefully we can do really well all-round."
