Ten-man Salisbury City pulled off a superb 2-1 replay victory over Cambridge United to reach the Fourth Round of The FA Carlsberg Trophy and earn a home tie against Tamworth.

Salisbury had Stuart Anderson sent off after only 15 minutes for a foul on Cambridge’s Simon Russell but still came out on top to reach the last eight.

They went ahead after 28 minutes thanks to a superb shot on the turn from Matt Tubbs and were in control for most of the match.

In fact the home side made it 2-0 before the break, Robbie Sinclair taking advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Laurie Walker to walk the ball home from 20 yards.

In front of a crowd of 592 Cambridge did eventually fight back, Danny Crow reducing the arrears after finishing well from a Russell cross. But Tubbs twice went close to extending Salisbury’s lead and they finished worthy winners.

Barrow are also through after an equally impressive victory, winning 3-2 away at Gateshead. They now take on York City at home in the Fourth Round.

Winger Simon Wiles was particularly impressive on his first start for the Bluebirds. But it was a Jason Walker penalty, a Carl Jones own-goal and Andy Bond’s 73rd minute clincher that sent the visitors into the Quarter-Final in front of a crowd of 312.

James Sinclair and Daryl Clare scored for Gateshead.

The FA Trophy Fourth Round ties will take place on the weekend of Saturday 20 February.
