Bedfont Sunday midfielder Tommy Owen is hoping to make up for ten months of injury heartache with a shot at glory in The FA Sunday Cup.
The passionate midfielder suffered a broken ankle that forced him out of action for the majority of last season but he has returned fitter and stronger and now has his heart set on a run in The Sunday Cup.
"Most of the boys here play at a decent level on a Saturday but if we get to The Final of The FA Sunday Cup, it's probably the biggest thing any of us could achieve in football," said Owen.
"The great thing about the club is the fact that we are all mates that play together, we have grown up playing for different teams around the area, at different levels, but on a Sunday we all get a chance to play together and hopefully in a competition like The Sunday Cup, achieve something special."
Owen will take to the field at the weekend without long-time friend and midfield cohort Ryan Lake who has been forced to give up his place in the side due to work commitments. And the left-sided playmaker, with Football League pedigree, will be sorely missed by the Middlesex club
"Ryan is a quality player, we went to school together and he went on to his YTS at Brentford before playing for the likes of Hampton and Richmond so he obviously has a lot of ability," added Owen.
"We've got good players to come in and replace him but no-one of his calibre and it's a shame he is unavailable."
Owen is confident the players that are available for selection for the game against Exeter-based side Wonford United will be more than up to the task of helping the club to get one step nearer to a trip to The Final.
"Ricky Farden is one of the best young players in the squad and we have a few good youngsters here," he revealed. "But some of them don't like training and I usually end up moaning at them because of it but that's just because I wear my heart on my sleeve."
