Erase the disappointment

Kent's Sam Cliff wants to go one better than last year.

Sam Cliff, the captain of Kent County, is currently preparing for tomorrow’s County Youth Cup Final against Sheffield & Hallamshire and he is hoping to use last season’s disappointment to help lead his team to victory.

Cliff scored in last season’s Final but Kent slipped a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Birmingham and the forward does not want a repeat of that outcome at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.

“It was a good achievement for me,” said Cliff, reflecting on his Final strike, “but we didn’t win so that is a feeling we want to avoid this time.

“Everyone is over the moon to be here again. After getting to The Final last year, we lost some key players and then we lost even more this season but we’ve all stuck together and just carried on going and we’re back. Now I think everyone wants to go that one step further and lift The Cup.”

Reaching The Final in consecutive seasons confirms Kent’s pedigree in this competition and they had to overcome a strong Liverpool outfit in this season’s Semi-Final, eventually running out 5-3 victors and Cliff is eager to replicate that performance when it matters most.

“I didn’t think I’d get this far with the team but the hope now is to get my hands on The Cup. There are a lot of people on the team who are eager to do that, I know I’m one of them, so if we all work together and show the same attitude that we did in the Semi-Final, then there’s no reason why we can’t.”
