Music acts to kick off new season

Reef and Kerry Ellis will perform before Community Shield.

Wembley Stadium will kick off a brand new football season with Reef and Kerry Ellis as musical guests at The FA Community Shield sponsored by McDonald's next month.

Indie rockers Reef, who broke into the mainstream with their 'Place Your Hands' single in 1996 and subsequent number one album, 'Glow', will perform their timeless hit on the Wembley pitch before West End theatre star Ellis sings the National Anthem.

Made up of Gary Stringer, Jack Bessant, Kenwyn House and Dominic Greensmith, Reef have also been a big hit on the football pitch in the past having beaten both Oasis and Blur in small-sided celebrity tournaments. And Stringer, the vocalist, is looking forward to performing in front of over 80,000 Manchester United and City fans on Sunday 7 August:

“It's great to be asked to play Wembley at the kick off of the football season and I’ll be bringing my boots," said the Wolves fan, on behalf of the band who have toured with the likes of Paul Weller, The Rolling Stones and Soundgarden.

Ellis has made her name in London’s theatre district having performed lead roles in West End hits such as 'We Will Rock You', 'My Fair Lady' and 'Les Misérables'.

Born in Suffolk, Ellis has also performed on Broadway, starring as Elphaba in the Stateside production of 'Wicked' while her most recent role was as Nancy in 'Oliver!' at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane.

"What a great honour to be given the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at this historic event. I'm so excited to perform in this iconic stadium, the home of football," she said.
