We have today launched a Request for Proposal [RFP] tender process to appoint a partner to build a long-term Non-Fungible Token [NFT] based platform, focused on the England Senior Men’s and Women’s teams.
The blockchain based digital technology will create new ways for fans to engage and interact with England Teams and reach new global audiences, whilst generating a new stream of income over the long-term, to be invested back into the game.
Intellectual Property [IP] featured in the RFP to produce NFTs include current England player names and nicknames, authorised England match footage, player imagery, photographs and curated content, the Three Lions and Lionesses logos, The FA and St George’s Park logos, imagery of FA-owned artefacts such as England Caps, and St George’s Park footage and imagery.
The launch of the tender process forms part of The FA’s long-term strategy for NFT technology. The focus is on making best use of FA assets for the commercial benefit of the game and to open up further opportunities to engage with the fans. The process will include identifying an NFT partner to help the FA brand to grow and thrive, whilst also being clear and transparent with fans around the option to purchase and the associated risk.
All intellectual property rights for all purposes throughout the world relating to the England Teams, Wembley Stadium brand and The FA name and emblems will continue to belong solely and exclusively to The FA.
Navin Singh, FA Commercial Director, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for us to build a new long-term platform around the FA brands and the England teams for the benefit of the game.
"As a not-for-profit organisation, we are always exploring progressive and viable ways to capitalise on new technology to help grow our fanbase and provide much-needed investment back into the English game. NFTs present a unique and innovative opportunity to engage with our fans through the imagery of The FA and the England Senior Men’s and Women’s teams. Any revenue generated will be for the benefit of the game, whilst importantly offering flexibility for fans to express their fandom in this new exciting medium.”
