Further to our successful 2016 Call for Research, we are pleased to announce a further jointly-funded call for research alongside the PFA, this time with additional collaboration from FIFA.
The research question, as agreed by our Research Task Force is:
"What is the cause of the observed increased risk of death from neurodegenerative disorders in former professional footballers found in the FIELD study?"
Research applications are encouraged to address secondary questions such as the risk to current players, risks at different levels of the game, the nature of any risk in childhood, the risk in other sports and the risk in women’s as well as men’s football.
An initial research proposal should be no more than two pages long and should be submitted to: angela.fitzgerald@thefa.com
The closing date for applications is 15 April 2021 after which shortlisted applicants will be invited to present in further detail to the Research Task Force with a view to commencement of the selected study in the 2021/22 Academic Year.
