Top flight and Championship clubs join the FA Youth Cup after third round draw

Friday 10 Nov 2017
Chelsea won last season's FA Youth Cup with a victory over Manchester City in the Final

The draw for the third round proper of the FA Youth Cup was made at Wembley Stadium on Friday.

With clubs from the Premier League and Championship joining the competition in this round, a total of 32 ties will take place at the next stage.

However, with a number of second round ties still to be played out over the next week or so, the full draw is yet to take shape.

Holders Chelsea will have home advantage for the first game of their title defence, playing either Cambridge United or Scunthorpe United at the Recreation Ground in Aldershot.

Runners-up Manchester City will start with a trip south to play either AFC Wimbledon or Plymouth Argyle who will meet in the second round on Tuesday 14 November.

The lowest-ranked clubs left in the competition are Clanfield 85 and Sholing, who have second round trips to Dagenham & Redbridge and Leyton Orient respectively to overcome.

Third round ties must be played by Saturday 16 December, unless mutually agreed otherwise. The draw for the fourth round proper will be made on Friday 8 December.
