FA WPL Southern Division top two pick up important wins

Cardiff are 11 points behind leaders Brighton but with four games in hand

There were two fixtures in The FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division on Sunday and Brighton & Hove Albion didn’t waste the opportunity to go further clear at the summit.

Deanna Cooper put the Seagulls ahead shortly before the break but Forest Green Rovers, with just two league wins this season, levelled early in the second half through a Kirsty Richardson penalty.

It looked as though Forest Green might earn a point until Charlotte Gurr converted a Charley Boswell cross 10 minutes from time.

Lucy Somes put the game out of Rovers’ reach five minutes from time with a third, before substitute Lisa Fulgence rubbed some salt into the home side’s wounds in injury time.

And Cardiff City – one of the chasing pack near the top – made sure they didn’t lose any ground on Brighton by picking up a 3-1 win at Lewes.
