Patrick Roberts says he hopes to bring an excitement factor to the Manchester City first team and get "people out of their seats."

The England Under-19s attacker made his senior bow for the club from the bench in Tuesday’s 4-1 victory at Sunderland in the League Cup.

It follows on from his impressive man-of-the-match display for the Blues’ U19s in the UEFA Youth League last week, where he set up two and scored a sublime solo effort in a 4-1 triumph over Italian side Juventus.

"All I can say to City fans is that I want to get people out of their seats and take people on," the 18-year-old told MCFC.co.uk.

"I love attacking, running at players and being positive."

Roberts, who helped his country to record a 3-2 win in Germany and a 1-1 draw in Croatia earlier this month, moved to Manchester from Fulham in the summer.

And he says he could not have been made to feel more welcome up north by the club’s fans, so hopes to repay that warmth by producing the goods on the field over the coming years.

"It’s funny because I’ve met a few supporters lately as I leave the training ground and there’s some young kids who have asked for my autograph – it’s all new to me and that was me ten years ago," he added.

"It’s nice, though. I hope I get the chance to entertain them for many years to come."

Roberts will be hoping to be included in Aidy Boothroyd's Young Lions squad for October's European Championship qualifiers against Macedonia, Finland and Italy.
