Dominic Iorfa has a big season ahead, one which he hopes can end in promotion to the Premier League and a spot in Gareth Southgate's England Under-21s.

The England Under-20s defender has enjoyed a productive 2015 after becoming a regular for both Wolves and the Young Lions.

And now the club’s 2014-15 Young Player of the Season wants to kick on for both club and country.

“The last 12 months have been remarkable. At the start of last season I was playing in the Wolves Under-21s and wasn’t in the England set-up,” he said.

Dominic Iorfa made 22 appearances for Wolves during the 2014-15 season

"I’m now going into the season as a regular in the team and in the England Under-20s team. I’m just looking ahead now.

“My aim for the season is, if I keep doing well with Wolves, I might get a look in for the England Under-21s, hopefully I can break into the side.

“Hopefully, one day I’ll be playing in the Premier League, I want a good few years there – as a club we’ll do that together.”

After spending time on loan at Shrewsbury Town, the 20-year-old made his first-team debut in December 2014 – and quickly became a fans’ favourite.

A central defender by trade, Iorfa has found his feet on the right side of Kenny Jackett’s back four.

But regardless of where he is asked to play Iorfa, who has also represented England at Under-18s level, says he determined to succeed and cement his place in the side.

“We know that we’re good enough as a team to push for promotion”

“I played centre-half all my life but I’ve never actually played a professional game there,” he said in the interview with the local Express & Star newspaper.

“I’m happy to play either. Since I’ve been in the team I think I’ve got better and better going forward and helped to influence games more.”

He continued: "We know that we’re good enough as a team to push for promotion.

“Hull and QPR have still got a lot of their Premier League players, so it’ll be a good test to see where we’re at.”

Iorfa will be hoping to be a part of Keith Downing’s Under-20s squad when they next meet to take on the Czech Republic.

The two nations meet at Shrewsbury Town’s Greenhous Meadow stadium at 7.30pm on Monday 7 September.
