Danny Welbeck was on the move on deadline day

Danny Welbeck has completed a deadline-day move to Arsenal, the club has confirmed.

Welbeck - who scored 20 goals in 92 Barclays Premier League appearances for the Manchester club - joins Arsene Wenger's outfit on a long-term deal.

The England international, who is currently with Roy Hodgson's squad for their first games of the new campaign, leaves Manchester United after 13 years. He becomes Arsenal's fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Calum Chambers.

  • Born: 26 November 1990
  • Place: Longsight, Manchester
  • Former clubs: Manchester United, Preston North End (loan), Sunderland (loan)
  • England caps: 26
  • Goals: 8

Having come through the ranks at Old Trafford, Welbeck has also spent time out on loan at Preston and with Sunderland before establishing himself in Sir Alex Ferguson's first-team squad.

During his time in the north-west the 23-year-old won 26 England caps, netting eight times.

He also lifted the Premier League trophy and the League Cup during his time with the Red Devils.

However, under the new regime of Louis van Gaal opportunities have been limited for the forward.

He appeared as a substitute in two of United's league games so far this season - draws at both Sunderland and Burnley - and started in the remarkable 4-0 League Cup exit at the hands of MK Dons.

With the long-term injury of Olivier Giroud confirmed in August, Welbeck will now be looking to secure a regular first-team spot at the Emirates.

He will be eligible for selection in Arsenal's next fixture - a home tie against Manchester City on 13 September.

Also on their way out of Manchester United on a temporary basis, defender Michael Keane joins Burnley on loan until January, while Nick Powell heads to Leicester City for the season.

Keane, 21, is also on international duty this week with Gareth Southgate's Under-21s set-up, and will link up with the Clarets ahead of their next Premier League encounter with Crystal Palace.
