Perform, the leading sports medicine and human performance centre based at St. George’s Park, has been recognised for its innovative work within elite football at the prestigious 2014 Football Business Awards.
The facility, which provides world-leading injury rehabilitation and conditioning support for all 24 England national teams as well as elite athletes from across sport, was awarded the Best Business Serving Football (up to £2m turnover) prize at the annual ceremony at Stamford Bridge.
The award was accepted on the night by the centre’s Director, Phil Horton, who spoke of its significance in recognising the hard work put in by his team at the national football centre throughout the year.
"Perform at St. George’s Park are absolutely delighted to be named Best Business Serving Football up to £2m turnover,” he said.
“This Football Business Award is recognition for all the hard work the Perform team puts in to offer an excellent service to all our clients from the footballing industry.”
The judges’ panel, which included League Managers Association CEO Richard Bevan and Bruce Buck, Chelsea FC Chairman, selected Perform on the strength of its portfolio of services.
As well as providing an optimal training base for the England football squads, the panel agreed that the centre has also excelled in its provision of injury rehabilitation of players and ex-professionals through the PFA scheme, a comprehensive healthcare service for members of the League Managers Association and an injury management programme for professional football officials.
The centre also provides rehabilitation for players and ex-professionals through its PFA Residential Rehabilitation Scheme
St. George’s Park Chairman, David Sheepshanks CBE, was also present at the ceremony and congratulated Perform for their success. He stressed that events such as the Football Business Awards play an important role in recognising the diversity of knowledge and expertise across the sport.
“These Football Business Awards are so important to the industry and the recognition that they bring to the leading operators in their various fields like Perform at St. George’s Park is invaluable.”
“It is not only the many, diverse elements that comprise the business of Football that make it so compelling but also the constant need to adapt and change, to embrace the continual advances in sports science and technology that keep it so vibrant”
