The England midfielder has won the league three times with Chelsea, but has not lifted the trophy since 2010 after finishing second, sixth and third in the subsequent three seasons.
However, with eight games remaining, Chelsea sit top of the Premier League – four points ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal in second – and Lampard says it is wonderful to be back in the chase.
"It's great to be in this position," Lampard said.

"We've had a couple of years, two or three years, off the pace, finishing short.”
Jose Mourinho steered Chelsea to two of the three titles – but the Blues have won one Premier League title since the second of those in 2006.
Other trophies have come in that time – not least the Champions League in 2012 – but Lampard admitted to be in the midst of a title charge brings a special feeling.
He said: "It's great to be back in the race and to feel that around the club, to feel we're fighting for the title rather than fighting for fourth place. It feels good."
Lampard was instrumental in each of Chelsea’s title-winning seasons, reaching double figures in all three campaigns – and in 2006 notched 22 league goals as Mourinho’s men romped home to a second title in as many years.
Mourinho, who returned to Stamford Bridge last summer, has consistently downplayed their title chances for this term.
But as the Blues prepare to welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Saturday – in what will be Arsene Wenger’s 1,000th game in charge of the north London side – Lampard is hoping to ensure the Frenchman's landmark occasion is spoiled and Chelsea's challenge goes on.
"They've got a lot of good players and quality. Every team has to break the mould some time,” he added.
"We worry about ourselves, where we are at the minute. If we can win as many games as we can till the end of the season we'll give ourselves a great chance. I am confident."
