Dominic Solanke believes a strong second-half performance from his team-mates led to his match-winning brace for England U17s.

The Chelsea striker levelled the scores on 67 minutes before hitting the winner with only seconds remaining as the Young Lions battled from a goal down to defeat Belgium at St. George’s Park on Tuesday.

With the match goalless at the break, Solanke said some words from Head Coach John Peacock at the break inspired the team to produce a match-winning performance.

“It’s amazing scoring the winner for your country.”

Solanke said: “He said that it wasn’t really good enough first-half and we could play a lot better.

“He told us to relax on the ball as it is our place and we should be more comfortable.

“We started off very well and continued that throughout the half.”

On his late winner, Solanke added: “I saw Kieran Dowell with a lot of space so I told him to turn and it was a perfectly weighted pass for me to take a touch and hit it.

“It’s amazing scoring the winner for your country, against good opposition.

“Belgium is one of the top nations, so I think it’s a good achievement.”
