Sheffield Utd hero Chris Porter dreams of FA Cup derby

Porter celebrates his first goal against Forest

Sheffield United match-winner Chris Porter has his sights set on a quarter final meeting with local rivals Sheffield Wednesday following their dramatic victory over Nottingham Forest.

Porter replaced Jose Baxter with just four minutes of the game remaining, but scored twice to book the Blades’ place in the final eight of the competition and potentially set up a mouth-watering Steel City derby.

Wednesday still have their bit to do with a home game against Charlton Athletic, but the United super-sub is hopeful that the two will meet to fight it out for a Wembley Semi-Final.

"I was out warming up so I wasn’t actually aware who we we’d drawn," he admitted, after manager Nigel Clough told of how he used the draw at half time to motivate his side.

"But obviously it would be good for the city if it was to happen.

"It will be absolutely massive. There were 25,000 here today so I’m sure it will be ram-packed and there will be people trying to get in from all over the place. It will be a great atmosphere because it’s huge.

"We played them twice last season and I didn’t manage to get on so I’ve experienced it, but only from the bench. It will be a great experience."

But no matter who they come up against in the next round, the struggling League One outfit are now just 90 minutes away from a trip to Wembley.

Highlights of the game at Bramall Lane

Despite being steeped in a relegation battle and having only recorded one League win since the turn of the year, United had dumped Aston Villa and Fulham out of the competition prior to their meeting with Forest.

Having brought an end to their visitors’ 16-game unbeaten streak in this latest victory, Porter is beginning to believe in the magic of The Cup and is dreaming of a return to Wembley having suffered defeat there in the 2012 League One play-off final.

"I think in The Cup we’ve been magnificent, beating two Premier League teams and a Championship side now," he added.

"Although we went 1-0 down today there were some great individual performances. We never looked like dying and I think we created the better chances overall. I’ve got a few goals in The FA Cup now so hopefully that will continue."

"To play at Wembley is absolutely massive. It’s a great experience and again I was on the bench when we played there last time so it would be nice to get there and hopefully get a start."
