Southampton midfielder Jack Cork says he would love to follow in his father’s footsteps and win The FA Cup.

His dad, Alan, was a member of Wimbledon’s ‘Crazy Gang’ that shocked Liverpool in the 1988 Final.

And ahead of Saints’ Fifth Round tie at Sunderland on Saturday, Cork Jnr. admits the thought of picking up a winners’ medal is in the back of his mind.

He told Southampton’s website: "He actually texted me before the [Fourth Round tie against] Yeovil to say, ‘There’s still only one medal in the family,’ and I saw that just before the game.

"It would be nice and I would love to get as far as we can.

"The Semi-Final is at Wembley so right now anywhere near that sort of stage would be brilliant and I know that the lads would love it too."

Mauricio Pochettino takes his side to the Stadium of Light for the third time this season – and they have yet to record a win over the Black Cats.

They drew 2-2 in the Premier League last month and slipped to a 2-1 League Cup defeat in November.

But Cork believes Southampton’s performances this season gives Saints plenty of reason to be optimistic they can advance to the last eight.

The former England Under-21 international added: "If we do play as well as we have done in the league in the cup games then we do have a chance.

"We were unlucky to go out in the [League] Cup to Sunderland and that would have been a nice [competition] to do well in, but saying that they had Chelsea and Man United after us so it wouldn’t have been an easy run, that’s for sure.

"This will hopefully be a chance for us to get into the quarter finals and then it’s only one win from Wembley and then from there The Final.

"It’s exciting just thinking about it but I do that every year when we beat two teams and then go out, so it would be nice to go as far as possible this time."
