UEFA EURO 2020
Working with our partners the National Literacy Trust, we are thrilled to bring you two fantastic literacy-based activities to celebrate the UEFA EURO 2020 Tournament.
UEFA EURO 2020 ‘Reading Challenge’
Our UEFA EURO 2020 Reading Challenge involves a wallchart reflecting the tournament fixtures with recommended book titles twinned with participating countries ‘playing off’ against each other. Children will have ‘book matches’, to ultimately find a class favourite, and find out which title will be crowned champion. Following the tournament format of group stage, round of 16, quarters, semis and the final, schools are challenged to ‘read their way to the final’.
Tom Palmer’s Online Instalment Story
Alongside the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament, the National Literacy Trust are launching an online instalment story by author Tom Palmer, published three times a week ‘live’ throughout the tournament, kicked off by a Facebook Live event with Tom on 11 June 2021.
This is a specially commissioned story featuring characters from Tom’s Roy of the Rovers books, Roy and his sister, Rocky! The story will be written in 12 ‘live’ chapters by Tom Palmer, and released a chapter at a time during the tournament on the National Literacy Trust’s Euros resource page (literacytrust.org.uk/euro20) by 07.30 every morning. Chapter 1 is available to download now below to kick things off!
Visit literacytrust.org.uk/euro20 from 11th June onwards, where the following chapters will also appear, supported by worksheets and some video content!
