Former FA Chairman Lord David Triesman passes away aged 82

Saturday 31 Jan 2026

We were saddened to learn about the passing of our former Chairman Lord David Triesman.

Lord Triesman passed away at home at the age of 82, on Friday 30 January 2026.

An avid football fan, Lord Triesman served as our first independent Chair between 2008 and 2010, following a career in politics with the Labour Party which saw him take on the role of general secretary between 2001 and 2003, before he was made a life peer in 2004.

Lord Triesman was also a board member at Wembley National Stadium, the Premier League shareholders' meeting, the Football Foundation, and was a qualified senior football referee.

Our thoughts are with Lord Triesman's family and friends at this time.
