Devante Cole proved to be a chip off the old block on Tuesday, as his brace helped Fleetwood Town to progress in The Emirates FA Cup.

The Cod Army found themselves two goals down against Shrewsbury Town in their second round replay at Highbury, before a thrilling finale saw them finish as 3-2 winners.

And the former Manchester City youngster, whose father is former England and Manchester United striker Andy Cole, scored the first two to bring Uwe Rosler’s side level before Ashley Hunter completed the comeback in stoppage time.

“I think when we got the second goal, we knew we were going to win – or at least I did anyway,” said Cole, who joined the club from Bradford City last January.

“The team showed massive spirit to get through after going two goals down. We showed massive fight and got back into the game and 3-2 was the result we wanted.”

Fleetwood will now face a trip to play Championship side Bristol City, another of Cole Senior’s former clubs, in the third round next month.

And after scoring his first goals since August in Tuesday’s tie, the 21-year-old believes Town can head to the south west with confidence.

“It’s a tough draw but with the way that we’ve been playing, we feel like we have a chance,” he added.

“I think I’ve been playing well and now I’ve got the goals so I’m happy to now kick on. I was buzzing with the first goal because it got us back in the game.”
