England U19s narrowly missed out on a place at this summer’s Euros despite defeating Scotland 3-0 in their final qualifier.
Shaquile Coulthirst, Lewis Baker and Chuba Akpom scored a goal apiece to see off the ‘Auld Enemy’, but Georgia’s 2-0 victory over the host nation, Belgium, saw them top the group and progress to the Finals in Lithuania.
Noel Blake’s side went into the game knowing they had to win to stand any chance of qualifying, following two draws in their opening two group matches.
And they got off to a flying start as Tottenham’s Coulthirst put them ahead on 17 minutes.
Chelsea youngster Baker, who scored the late leveller against Belgium on Sunday
, made it 2-0 from the penalty spot just after the half-hour mark.
Arsenal striker Akpom bagged a third for England in the 74th minute, but by that stage Giorgi Pantsulaia had already put Georgia in front and into the qualifying driving seat because all they had to do was win.
And Guram Samushia sealed his country’s place at the Euro Finals with a second goal on 78 minutes.
