Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea know better than anyone how to beat Manchester United as the two rivals prepare to face each other in the Community Shield on Sunday.

Mourinho successfully worked out a plan to overcome United in last season’s FA Cup Final and can look back on that day in May with real content.

So it’s no surprise that he is confident mood ahead of the new season.

He said: "I feel the reason why we won the Cup Final is because we understand better than everyone else the way they play. For me they play good attacking football, like many teams do, and they kill people with their counter attack.

"In my opinion you must understand the way they play and you must adapt to their way of play.

"In the Cup Final, Chelsea were in trouble - Essien at central defender, JT had problems, Ashley Cole out for three weeks without a training session. And Shevchenko was not even an option. Chelsea was in trouble, and yet Chelsea was comfortable in the game."

Chelsea won The Cup, of course, with a late, late goal from Didier Drogba - and that victory earned them the right to face Premiership winners United at Wembley ahead of the 2007-2008 campaign.

It has been a busy summer for both clubs in the transfer market, with United bringing in the likes of Owen Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson - and Chelsea snapping up stars such as Steve Sidwell, Claudio Pizarro and Florent Malouda.

But Mourinho insists he is happy with how it has panned out.

The Chelsea boss said: "United have spent money this season buying big players. Nobody has a better squad than me though. I am very happy with my squad."

Chelsea's squad was tested to the full last year when they suffered terribly from injuries. And it has been the same again this summer - with up to ten players in the treatment room this week.

Captain John Terry, for instance, is struggling with a broken toe ahead of Sunday's big game and Michael Ballack and Wayne Bridge are definitely out.

But there was some good news for the club today when Andriy Shevchenko, Arjen Robben and Michael Essien all returned to training.
