England U17s had to settle for a fourth place finish in the Nordic Tournament on Saturday afternoon, when they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Denmark.
Facing their fourth game since Monday's opener with Finland, the Young Lions were level at half time but Denmark's second half performance was strong and they took their chances with two late goals giving the scoreline a rather flattering appearance.
In what was a lively start to the game, Denmark took an early lead when they scored from a corner, with Dario Dumec getting the final touch to edge them ahead.
England were back level just over ten minutes later though, when Jacob Walcott (pictured left) found the equaliser to see the teams go in at half time all square.
Unfortunately though, Denmark found their scoring touch in the second half, re-taking the lead shortly after the re-start when Mads Hvilsom put the Danes back in front.
Christian Eriksen added another less than ten minutes later and captain Nikolai Boilsen then scored from the penalty spot to make it 4-1 and end England's hopes of sealing third place in the competition.
To make things worse, Denmark added two more goals in the last couple of minutes through Alexander Nissen Green and substitute Jonas Larsen.
The U17s will be in action again later this month when they face games with Italy, Israel and Portugal in a mini-tournament to be held at Peterborough United, Rushden & Diamonds, Northampton Town and Cambridge City. Click here for full details on that competition.
