Kenny Swain's Young Lions win the Victory Shield outright with a thrilling win over Scotland at Glanford Park. |
Everton defender Jack Rodwell can't wait for the opportunity to get out onto the Wembley pitch and fulfill his dream of playing on the hallowed turf.
The 16-year-old has risen through the ranks at Goodison Park, making his debut for the reserve team this season, and is looking to be the first blue to play at Wembley when England's U16s take on Spain this Saturday.
"It's absolutely amazing," Rodwell told TheFA.com. "It's every kid's dream to play for England and to do it at Wembley is unreal."
"It's going to be exciting for everyone, and we've just got to enjoy every minute of it.
"I've never been to Wembley before so this is a pretty fantastic first chance to go there."
Despite being born three decades after England's World Cup success in 1966, that famous day in July is one of the Wembley moments that Jack has firmly etched in his mind.
Jack explained: "I'm an Everton fan so the 1995 FA Cup Final is certainly one of the highlights for me, but I think what stays firmly in the memory is all the clips and old footage from 1966 when England won the World Cup.
"That will definitely be in my mind when I'm playing there."
After captaining England U16s to success in the Victory Shield, Jack is eager to keep taking every opportunity to turn out for his country.
"It's an amazing feeling to put the England shirt on, you're representing your country and everytime you play you just hope you get another chance to do it again.
"You just have to enjoy it and focus on the game in front of you."
The spirit in the camp is good, and that could be crucial as England come up against one of the best sides in world football at this level.
"We're bonding well as a team, and the more games we play together the better really. Kenny has been speaking about Spain for some time before this game was confirmed, saying that he would love for us to have the opportunity to play them.
"Most of my family and a few friends are coming down, so hopefully it will be a special day for everyone involved."
