England to take on North Macedonia in UEFA Futsal EURO qualifying round play-off

Thursday 13 Feb 2020
England's Futsal team will face North Macedonia in the UEFA Futsal EURO play-off

England will take on North Macedonia in their UEFA Futsal EURO qualifying round play-off in April.

The draw for the play-off was made at UEFA's base in Nyon on Thursday afternoon, following the preliminary qualifying rounds last month when the Futsal Lions finished third in their group with Moldova and Israel.

But Michael Skubala's side were among the best third-placed teams from the preliminary round, which means they have a second chance of reaching the main qualifying round next February if they can see off their play-off opponents.

England will have home advantage in the first leg, before travelling to North Macedonia for the decider with the two ties to be scheduled between 8 and 15 April.

Skubala and his team were in qualifying action in Moldova last month

"It's going to be a tough challenge for us, it was probably the toughest tie left in the pot as they are the highest-ranked nation left in this pot," said Skubala, who was in Switzerland for the draw.

"They're ranked 24th in Europe, whereas we're 30th so we know it's not going to be easy as we could've drawn a nation ranked below us, but we have home advantage in the first game and we'll then head to North Macedonia for the second leg a few days later.

"We have got a young squad at the moment, with a new generation coming through so it will be a great experience for them to play in a qualifier against a nation like this."

The UEFA Futsal EURO 2022 Finals will be held in the Netherlands and the full play-off draw is below:-

1 Turkey v Greece
2 San Marino v Denmark
3 Israel v Cyprus
4 Switzerland v Germany
5 England v North Macedonia
6 Bulgaria v Armenia
7 Montenegro v Lithuania

The venues and dates for the games will be confirmed in due course.
