Evesham United pulled off an upset on Wednesday as they defeated Southern League Premier Division side Histon 3-1.

Despite being a step below their opposition, the 267 inside the Jubilee Stadium were rocking after only nine minutes when Ashley Edenborough fired them into an early lead.

A clearance from keeper Kevin Sawyer found Lance Smith, who created a shooting opportunity for himself that was initially saved, but Edenborough followed up with a shot that went in off the bar.

The hosts continued to press, but they failed to convert their pressure into goals until shotstopper Sawyer turned provider once more early in the second-half – Elliot Kennedy meeting his kick and surging into the box to fire home.

Histon refused to bow out without a fight, and they pulled a goal back through Freeman with 15 minutes to go to set up a nervy finish – but their fate was sealed with five left on the clock.

Edenborough was brought down in the box, and he dusted himself off to score from the spot to seal a home tie with Chalfont St Peter in the Third Round Qualifying.

307 people were at Harrison Park to see Leek Town’s FA Cup run continue against Tividale as a deflected strike from defender Paul Donnelly proved to be the difference between the two sides.

It was the same scoreline in the other two matches in the competition, with Frome Town 1-0 victors at home to Folland Sports as were Willand Rovers against Blackfield & Langley.
