St. George's Park to host Development Tournament

Midfielder Mollie Rouse has been called up to the U17 squad

The England Women’s U17s will get their year under way by hosting the annual UEFA Development Tournament at St. George’s Park.

Poland, Denmark and Switzerland will visit the national football centre in early April.

It will be the first time the Young Lions have been in action since hosting the European Championship finals in November and December last year when they narrowly missed out on a place at the FIFA U17 World Cup, which is currently taking place in Costa Rica.

Tournament schedule

6 April - v Poland (12.30pm)
8 April - v Denmark (7pm)
11 April - v Switzerland (11am)

It was the first time the finals have been staged outside Switzerland, to help mark The FA’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

But in moving the finals from the traditional summer slot, it means the U17s will not have any competitive matches until next season’s opening round of Euro qualifiers which will take place in October – where England will take on Russia, Moldova and host nation Bulgaria.

The calendar will instead be filled by this Development Tournament, a training camp in May and a trip to Sweden in July for the Nordic Cup where the Young Lions will face the Swedes, Iceland and Holland.

Five players who experienced the recent Euro Finals - Sian Rogers, Lucy Porter, Mollie Rouse, Ashleigh Plumptre and Chloe Kelly - have been called up for the first camp of 2014.
